WordPress v5.0 - Why it's Great for Content Creators like You and Me!
Upcoming WordPress 5.0 release (Dec 6th) and the improvements that the WordPress team has made is great for the future of WordPress and WordPress-based plugins.
Imagine if you didn't need a page builder plugin to create a rich layout for your content! That's what Gutenberg will likely evolve into next year so I'm very excited about the future of WordPress for both plugin owners as well as content creators.
SaaS platforms can NEVER beat the flexibility and scalability of a WordPress platform but with this much needed update, WP can now compete with other hosted website builders like Wix, Squarespace etc with massive improvements to site building functionality.
Also, hosted (SaaS) Shopping Cart / Funnel Platforms that promote 'easy-to-build' pages as one of their biggest features compared to WordPress plugins, won't have that edge over WordPress once this release stablizies and the new built-in content editing feature evolves in WordPress.
So yes, I'm super excited about the future of WordPress and the future of plugins like SmartPayCart.com (SPC) - WordPress-based shopping cart plugin.
That said, don't rush into this update. Wait until January 2019 to upgrade your site as it' s a major release and you may run into conflicts and compatibility issues with your theme/plugins etc.
How to Prevent WordPress Auto-Update!
You can add this line to your wp-config.php file to prevent WordPress Version auto-update:
define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', false );
OR install a plugin called "Easy Updates Manager" and disable 'core WP updates in the settings'.
Attn. DAP Users:
One great thing about DAP is that even though it's a plugin for WordPress, the whole admin functionality is built outside of wordpress so DAP is largely unaffected by WordPress updates.
We'll be testing all of our plugins with this new upcoming WordPress update and we'll keep you posted but please don't rush into v.5.0 upgrade and if you must, make sure you take a full backup before you upgrade and have a way of rolling back to the previous version if you run into major issues.
