Users mistyping their email address on the checkout page is a big problem for online business owners. As mobile ordering is becoming common, this is becoming a huge problem as people have typos in the email more than ever before. So users complete purchase without realizing that they mistyped their email.

After purchase, they look forward to getting started and expect some kind of purchase confirmation or a welcome email but that email never arrives. This obviously results in poor customer experience and often results in refunds and cancellations. Some may share their negative experience with others in the community. This can have an impact on your brand and can lead to lost sales.

Performance: We didn't want to add additional order processing time. So when users type in email, and click on place order, if we spent 5 extra seconds checking with this email checker platform to validate the email, it would slow down the processing time. If anything, we want to make things faster, not slow it down.
Email Confirmation: The easiest solution would have been to add another confirm email field and require users to re-type their email. But this approach would definitely affect the conversion rate because the last thing you want to do is add additional hurdle in the path of users completing their order. You want to minimize the number of things you ask your users to type on the checkout, not increase it. Also, as more and more users are using their mobile devices to place order, less is more. So this was not an option for us.
Cost: There are several good email verification platforms. We wanted to pick an email verification solution that would be cost effective for our users. Many of these email verification platforms have a free tier but there were limitations with the free tier. So we wanted to pick a solution that had the APIs we needed to validate email, but also a solid and reliable solution that was cost effective as well.
